The Key Elements to Pinterest Pin Design
Courtesy of Bettina Smith
Looking to have a decent Pin design, but just don’t have the know-how to design one? We all know that a Pin design consists of a beautiful layout with a very clear marketing strategy.
Since Pinterest is not really a social media platform, but rather a visual search engine. The look and feel of a Pin is pivotal to how successful you will be on Pinterest.
Pinterest Pin designs include these few elements:
Image: The most important element in your Pin should be the image. This could anything ranging from a product image, recipe image, to even a group of images.
It is best to use images surrounded with white space around them. As a result, you can add different elements and text overlays without the space becoming crowded!
Title: The title should be relevant to your Pin. It is best to use Pinterest keywords in your title. Just make sure the keywords are related to your Pin.
Keep it short and simple! Your title should not be all keywords.
One of the most important design tips to keep in mind is to simplify your Pin designs. A long title is downright confusing and makes it difficult to fit in all of your text and elements without drowning out the image. In addition, Pins become rounded on the edges in the feed.
Background: You don’t have to use images for your background; high contrast colors can be used to make your image and text easier to read..
In terms of Pin design, Minimalist Pin designs are favored over busy designs, which is very distracting to
your audience and your Pin.
Subheading: A subheading is a segway to including additional text, but try not to add too many words (although I don’t have one in this particular Pin). Keep it simple and easy.
The best practice is to limit your text to a few words. State your purpose in your Pin. The subheading and copy are the keys to connecting with your audience’s emotions. But don’t forget about the power of Pinterest keywords so that you can rank in the search engine!
Additional Design Elements: Branding elements is a great enhancement to the Pin. These can include lines, dots, arrows, other emblems, etc.
Less is more! Too many design elements will take away from your Pin and the space will become cluttered..
Branding: Your branding should be included in your Pin, such as a logo, product or URL, ensure that your branding is mentioned in your Pin.
Branding is key to your Pin!
The focus point should be on your Pin at all times. Are you sharing a banana recipe? Beauty tips? Promoting a new service or even a product, etc.? Your branding or logo should not override this goal.
Rule of thumb: your Pin should always correspond with your brand colors.
CTA, or Call to Action: You can persuade your customers/clients to buy something, or even learn something new, etc. This is not always necessary, however it is best practice to have one.
Using shorter CTAs in your Pin does much better than longer ones. Your main goal is to grab your audience’s attention. One way to do that is by using bold colors, of course, within your brand colors.
You may have top-notch content in the world, however if the pins that you designed don't have the professional look and don’t get your audience to click your pins, this will spell out for your Pins.
So, next time when you are designing your Pins, keep these few elements in mind.
